Hey everyone. I have a 55gal setup with african cichlids, they're all small right now. i have an Emperor 400 and a Penguin 350 Biowheel both on my tank, but I want to get a Canister Filter and I like the Fluval 305 Canister Filter. But, I'm not that experienced with canister filters and not sure really how much of a difference it would make. I feel like I would be switching from two back filters that equal over 100g of filtration for a canister filter that only offers 70g of filtration. Would it be worth my money and time? Or would it actually do less for my tank than my back filters do now? or is there such a significant difference in back and canister filters that it would work great? I already know it would LOOK a lot better, with the canister being in the stand and all, but I'm just trying to pick my best option.

Re: Fluval 305 Canister Filter
I have the remains of 3 Fluval 403 filters, the impellors froze in the motor well and I can't get them out.
So I would not recomend a Fluval.
Canisters are great, but they are a major undertaking to clean, thankfully you don't have to do it as often.
I love HOB filters because they are so easy to clean.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
