Can they make it out???

I have some assassin snails in my tank with crushed coral. I am careful during water changes not to cover them with crushed coral. Wondering if they do get buried can they make it out. I know they liked to burrow into sand but not sure if they can survive under the coral. Thanks for any input...Sharif
