I didn't have any lights for my mollies until just recently because I'm running bare bottom now and light shines through. They were doing just fine before the lights, but now I can see them swimming around without a care in the world... now let's just hope when the females give birth that the babies won't end up in the main tank! It'll be a treat for the mini monsters!

I've come to think mollies have babies merely as snack foods for themselves. Mistahoo, whatever the outcome with your mollies someones gonna be full, lol. Thanks for all the info & input, guys & gals. I put 1 molly in there tonight to try it out. A silver male, so I can find him & there's no possibility of him having babies, lol. Tomorrow, after I pull the substrate from the 55, I'll go try to find some of those push lights to stick on the walls in there so I can play I spy with my new sump-tenant.

They should not need a light, but would thrive better if one was provided. It would also be best if you were to dump in any floaters/stems to soak up and export any nitrate. But I suppose at that point it would be a FW refugium....
