  • Glass tank silicone seam question

I have my new 220 up and running and noticed two things that seem ok right now but not sure if they are actually a big deal.

    1) on most seams where the pieces of glass meet there is usually very little space between the pieces, but occasionally there will be a thicker amount of silicone and you can actually feel the silicone between the two pieces. Are these types of connections considered weaker, stronger, or same as the seams that appear to be glass to glass?

    2) now that water is in the tank I noticed a few spots in the seam where there are bubbles or air in the connection. Inside the tank all the seams look perfect (Oceanic tank BTW) but when I at the seam from the front of the tank I can tell there is some kind of defect in the seam. This one probably needs a picture to fully explain so I will get one after work.

Overall the tank seems really solid but wanted to get others opinions just in case

Bubbles in the seam are signs of a weak seal. Imo I wouldn't chance it, but it's up to you

Most likely I'm going to keep the tank up and running, but I am keeping a close eye on it for sure. I would guess that unless I'm extremely unlucky these bubble spots or whatever they are will get worse or increase in number before I had to worry about a catastrophic failure of the tank.

I would tend to agree with mistahoo here, and i personally wouldnt chance it. of course is up to you if you think its holding ok for now. cant be certain the issue will slowly get worse before the seam completely fails, and with 220gal of water, can cause quite a mess.
