I breed and raise bettas because I like to win the international betta shows
but I've always kept livebearers because they are so colorful and
cories because they are so cute and there are so many varities.
but my albino giant gourami was special because he was so big and his eyes followed me everywhere like a puppy dog !
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
No. They are protected by the Endangered Species Act. But apparently they are being bred in farms and microchiped, so there are people in the US petitioning to allow those to be imported to the US. So far, no dice.
Our Fishhouse
Sleep: A completely inadequate substitute for caffeine.
Saltwater tank: I have 2 green spotted puffers, a porcupine puffer & a stars and stripes puffer. I purchased the 2 green spotted puffers "Cheech & Chong" because I thought they were so darn cute and have so much personality and that darling smile that you just cannot refuse. I purchased the porcupine puffer basically for the same reason. She has a smile and a personality to die for. Now for the stars & stripes.....while waiting for my porcupine puffer at the lfs I met "Elvis" the stars & stripes puffer. He would push his face up aganist the glass everytime I would go by. Then he would chomp his teeth at me. So I started to feed him clams. Well he loved them. Of course he was not for sale. His daddy was moving to a new home and the lfs was puffer sitting. When I went to pick up "Selena" my porc puffer they told me that Elvis had been abandoned, so I rushed over to Elvis and asked him if he wanted to come home with me. How could I leave him there. The next morning I went back to pick him up and he has been keeping me entertained. I think he loves his new home!
Freshwater tanks: I have mixed cichlids in my 160, purchased them because of their color. I have Koi Angelfish in a 44, purchased them because I could not decided between Koi or Angelfish so I combined the two. I have dwarf puffers in a 10 purchased them because they were so tiny and just adorable. I have a 28 with a pair of apisto's, purchased them for their beauty. I also have a 20 high and a 29 with fry. Need fish? Just kidding I actually have the fish in the 20H going to someone soon.
Red Tailed Shark - I've always liked them. I would like to get a huge tank and keep more than just one.
Roseline Sharks - The first fish that ever caught my eye and said "Buy Me". Again, wish I had a big tank to keep many more in school.
Angelicus Loach - I had to have some Loaches in the tank. If I had a larger tank I'd have gotten clowns.
Rainbows - An impulse pet store buy. Not really happy with them although they do pull off some good colors.
Von Rios - I went to the petstore thinning I'd get Serpae Tetra these looked cooler.
Siamese Algae Eater - To eat algae .. this one reminds me of a puppy dog in activity and with tank mates.
O' Cats - Plecos are too big and ugly.. these are my sons favorites but I find them hard to keep alive for more than six months...
Beta - Only one .. wanted soothing for the shrimp tank.
Cherry Red Shrimp - these are fun. Can't find out why they don't bread better in my tanks
I'd like to have some elephant nosed fish in my tanks but when I was younger I couldn't keep them alive and killed so many (7) I can't do it again. No Internet back then and I spent a bunch of time in the library studding them.
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks!
I have had many different tanks over the years...from a brackish tank with archerfish and monos etc, to saltwater because the colors and shapes. I have always liked African Cichlids because of the amazing colors, and the fact they seem to recognize you more than any fish I have had except for my old puffer
215g Malawi Peacocks and Mbuna
180g Tropheus Ikola and Bemba and Clown Loaches
58g Bristlenose breeding and grow out
I have a very simple yet highly effective process by which I choose my fish. It is always right and never fails me. This is a two phase process and I recommend it to any of you guys interested in the hobby.
1. I choose what my wife chooses.
2. I choose what she says I can choose.
All men are created equal but his choices determine his value and what's in his heart determines his worth.

Might not be the best to tell the guys but I guess what's at home matters most

8) you gotta be smart about it. Trust me, it works. I haven't been in trouble for buying fish or a new tank yet
