  • Free Fishing on Saturday 6/7 only - no license required!

I was just perusing my fishing regulations book, and ran across this:

"The first Saturday in June of each year is the annual Free Fishing Day and no person is required to have a fishing license or stamp endorsements while fishing on that day.

A fishing license and stamp endorsement are not required if fishing from the bank in a state part or in waters completely enclosed by a state park.  All other fishing regulations, such as length and bag limits, remain in effect."

Just thought I'd share that.  It's on page 22 of the 2007-2008 Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Annual Hunting and Fishing Regulations that I got at Wal-Mart when I picked up my license.

Are there any state parks around Tomball to fish?

For those who are not going to the Swap N Sell, Huntsville State Park would be a good one.

The way I interpret it in the book, is there are 2 separate ways to fish without a license.

Method 1, is to fish on the first Saturday in June of each year.  It does not specify where you may or may not fish.  Which I interpret as "anywhere".

Method 2, is to fish from the bank in a state park, or in waters completely enclosed by a state park (being mindful of other regulations/limits).  It does not specify any time which this would be unaccaptable, which I interpret as "I can always go to a state park if I want to fish without a license."

Here, I found it on their website:  http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publicat...fish_licenses/

                  See how you interpret it...

Another item of interest was that to catch turtles and/or frogs, a hunting license is required.

I'm curious about one thing regarding that.  If it's not a fish and it's not a frog, than what type (if any) of requirements are there for tadpoles??  or fish eggs??  I may have to contact them for an answer to that one, but if you know the answer, please share it with me.
