Best substrate for pond

    Ditto on the "No Substrate". I thought the way you did at first but after the 3rd cleaning in only a few months, it got really old. Any sunlight getting in there will produce a mess of algae. I've had my pond running since 2003 & have very little trouble with algae growth. Started out with a 300gal then enlarged it to 2000gal w/ a arch bridge & two water falls (one from my skimmer & one from the main filter). I usually have a couple of Pleco in there just to keep things neat. I have Taro in pots (look like elephant ears) in my pond & they do great & it seems to keep the algae growth down. Black Magic is a nice looking purple leaf type that does not grow too large. Like the previous post, if you want any starters, hit me up.
    • 2000g Outdoor Pond w/ WC Texas Cichlids
    • 90g high & 42g corner bow-front Lake Malawi
    • 45g high grow-out tank
    • 10 & 20g grow-out tanks, Lake Malawi fry & BN Plecos
