Look what Elvis did!

This was the very first time I have ever seen him do this! He was huge! Just wanted to share. Sorry for the crappy pictures but I was in a hurry to snap a few.





I'm not sure what happened, I went into the kitchen this morning to make coffee, came around the corner in the fish room and there he was all puffed up!  8O I don't know if I spooked him or if he was just practicing. While puffed up he was about 10" from top to bottom. He is also about 8" long unpuffed. After seeing him all puffed up, he looks skinny now. I think the 3rd picture came out the best. I really need a better camera!

i thought that they only puffed up when they were stressed.  he looks really cool that way though.  too bad they didn't do it more often and it didn't mean that they were stressed!

They do puff when stressed,  spooked, practicing, and sometimes just for the heck of it. I know someone that has a puffer and if they don't put the food in the tank right away he will puff. His puffer has real attitude! My guess is he was sleeping when I first walked through the room, and when I came back in, turned on the light I may have spooked him. Although he has never done it before. I had a porc that would puff pretty often, I think she just like doing it. It really all depends on the puffer. My two GSP's have never puffed that I know of. This was the first time I saw Elvis do it. He looked like the size of a volley ball.

He's my little entrainer! Believe it or not, he was named before I got him and the name fit so well I kept it.

Here's a picture of Cheech & Chong on the right. When we got them they were a little green around the gills and that's how they got their names.

Never.  Ours chatter at me, and stare at me all day while I'm working, but never puff!  

Your guys really make me want a larger kind of puffer.  We have a 110g all set up and waiting for the right fish...you think a puffer would be good in a tank that size, or would he need something larger?

For a 110 I would get a fahaka puffer. It's freshwater and gets large. I want one of those and I have been thinking about getting one.
