They are milder in disposition then the normal color variant, so I imagine larger tetra and livebearers would work well (more like goodeids, which are found naturally with dempsey's). Some of the smaller pimelods would likely work, as with doradids and most hard water tolerant plecos. With decent water parameters most larger rainbows and Danios/Devarios could manage in a set up like that. I'd personally avoid any further cichlids as they would compete for the same area and might displace the dempseys or get bullied by them.In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Severums could work, they have always been sorta gentle giants in my experience. They can get a bit crazy at breeding time, but otherwise I think that would be manageable with enough filtration, both are fairly messy and big bioloads. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Bengal Danios are what I had with mine. He lived for 4 years with a group of 12 in a 55g. It worked flawlessly.
Their blues are different in shade and compliment the ebjds' blues without taking anything away from them visually.
Also, for a pleco or bottom feeder, L239 - Blue Panaque's work really nice and have a nice velvet blue to compliment as well.ELOS 120 - Retroculus Xinguensis, Geogphagus Neambi

i would agree with steering clear of more cichlids unless you want territorial battles or torn fins. breeding would enhance that and EBJDs are more sensitive.
trying to more so think along the lines of larger peaceful fish, since the JD will get large.
severums are generally peaceful yes (gold or super reds). roseline sharks (denison barb) are peaceful and good schooling fish.
there are many varieties of rainbows as suggested. they are very vibrant. boesemani, red rainbows, yellow.
Some larger species of tetras could work in schools like congos, red blue columbians, buenos aries, flag tails, etc.
even larger gouramis (gold, pearl, paradise, giant) i think would be ok

the thing with these fish is , they actually naturally occur in the wild. however, like leucistics and albinos, they rarely survive.
these fish also almost always have an immune comprimised system.
They get sick and die with no signs, warnings.
They are a line breed strain in aquariums to make this mutation happen exclusively witha single pair.
This as with red spotted severums, can lead to defects as well, as wild immune responses to things that otherwise wouldn't harm them.
This is why I would suggest a species only tank with one individual and sever complimenting dithers. They can and will grow to atleast 8-9".
They make decent wetpets. similar to oscars, and it's only better when they don't have to compete so hard for food or territiory, when they are the undesputed dominant fosh in the aquarium, as with most species, they shine better then with others who would compete for shelter, food ect.
hope this helps.ELOS 120 - Retroculus Xinguensis, Geogphagus Neambi
