Just a thought, I wonder if it depends on the amount of media in the canister? If the pump has a load on it
(more media "clogging" flow) then its working harder which might mean hotter? Maybe I'm way off base here...

I recently just unplugged one of my heaters since i came in one day and the temp hit 91...surprisingly all fish were still alive. The heater just was not shutting off for some reason and the room stay warm through the day. Might plug it back in for winter if needed.

My other tanks seem to hover at 76-81. Some heaters have a built in sensor to shut off when the temp in in a certain range. But I agree that 81 will not harm them...my cichlid tank is normally 80-82F. I dont have any special lights either.

Hate to add to the dissent, but I don't think it's the eheim. I've got a 2262 and a 2217 on my 150g, and the temp never gets above 77 or 78.
What lights do you have on the tank?

the 2262 is the only thing that has changed. I have a led fixture that mnemenoi recommended. I only have lights on 30 minutes in the morning and a few hours in the evening.

. I have heard of heaters doing that so when I added it a month or so ago, I added a heater controller too.

good thought. I have regular eheim media in the 2260 and some leftover eheim media in 2262 with just some floss on top. I planned on putting pot scrubbers in the 2262 next time I bust it open (or next time Andrew) busts it open...lol

Yeah, nightster may be on to something. I don't know why else it would raise temps in some tanks but not others. And yes, your LED's wouldn't do that no matter how long they're on!

Well my tank hovers around 80 and my 2262s have 3 layers of sponge with media in between every layer and are completely full. My tank heater never comes on and my house is set at 72...
