  • ph and ventilation

    Hello,

I have issue with my tank and the PH. I was told that the best way to maintain the ph is by ventilating the air and my home is completely sealed. I have a window right in back of my display tank. I wanted to know if there’s such an adapter that I can put on the window to allow ventilated air to enter and hit the tank without allowing bugs from coming in?

    Adapter? You don't have a/c?

I'm not aware of any correlation between house climate control and pH other than natural evaporation. pH changes occur when the ecological balance of the tank starts to grow unstable. Fish waste, aging filters, aging water, over feeding and stagnant water are big pH fluctuation driving factors.

Some substrates such as limestone based gravel and rock help keep pH stable.

Keeping ammonia and nitrates in check are big factors in maintaining a proper pH balance.

Feed just what the fish will eat, vacuum your gravel regularly and do 30% water changes every few weeks and your pH will stay balanced.

Treat your tap water with Prime before adding it to your tank. I let my water age for a few days before I do water changes.
