I sell luxury cars for a living, normally about 2 years old with less than 20k miles on it. This is what I tell my customer and my friends. Why buy a brand new Benz S550 at $95,000 when I can sell you a barely used preowned one with factory warranty for about $50,000. Let the first customer take the hit. Same rule applies to alot things in life. This filter is one of them. But I did have to buy a brand new wet/dry. Can't find a nice one around. :)

One difference they will not be a factory warranty. Lol.
You can buy a new fx5 for $220.00 used price $150.00
          And a new 2262 for $350.00 used price $250.00

IMO buy a new filter and you know what your getting
There are no certified pre owned aquarium filter

I dont know about the Fx5's but if you get a used Eheim that is currently running quiet then the impeller and shaft are probably in good shape and the nice thing about Eheim's is that new impellers and shafts are readily available to keep your filter running like new. The only comment I have heard from other hobbyist is that the new Eheims which are being manufactured in China and NOT in Germany are not as good a quality as the older Eheims. I personally prefer Eheims and I have never had a problem with them, I just replace impellers and shaft when they get to nosiy for me.

Y'all absolutely right but my brother(autonet) bought several and I have bought only 1 haven't had issue yet. (keeping fingers cross). I very new to this hobby (1week) but it seems like they are in short supply so I probably have to go new. Someone should open a preowned fish & aquatic equipment shop. People always seem to want to sell their used fish, tanks, and maybe their cars. LoL. Just a thought!

Keep your eyes peeled. There's plenty of buy sell and trade going on here.

I have had my Fluval FX5 for almost 2 years now and i LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I bought it off of ebay from the fluval store NOT jap junk. I paid 185 for it, when it first came out. I highly suggest NOT buying one from a LPS, they mark up their prices WAY too much. Good Luck!

For what its worth, check eBay. Bought my FX5 on there a year ago & got a great price ($180.00 shipping included). It was new, unopened box & to date have never had a problem with it, love how quiet it is & the maintenance is low. I have mine on a 90 gallon Malawi tank.
