Wouldn't and MBU make a meal of guppies? I'm not not too sure since i have no experience with them but I would put my money on it.

    Welcome to the BOX btw.

We are talking about a MBU puffer correct?

If we are I would think that someone who was to drop the money on one would do the research in to how to keep it happy.

Where did you get the MBU from? they should have informed you about the basics as well.

he got it from fish are us. so don't expect crap from them. I told him guppies would be fine cause mine are thriving with my puffer.

I was not trying to be rude... and no way was I trying to chase anyone off.

If I was being rude I apologize but it was not meant to be that way. I was just trying to help since I did take my time to link to several articles and a few forums that would be of great assistance.

I didn't see anything rude....I even read it twice....still didn't see anything but someone giving their help and advice. Maybe you are in a bad mood Steven and you took it the wrong way. I sometimes do that.

                    Re: i want some guppies!!!

ndnreefer: Mbu at Fish R Us can for from $150-$3000 from what I remember they are on the north side of town, near the Woodlands.

Steven: I see where you are coming from. There seemed to be a bit of condesension in one of eklikewhoa's posts. Speaking as a person that has met him on several occasions, I can assure you that he was simply trying to help you by providing as much information as possible.

gt3guru: While I believe that your Mbu is fine with guppies, please be aware that each fish is unique (especially with these large puffers). There is another user on this forum who had to remove african cichlids from the Mbu tank because the Mbu was attacking the Africans. Each Mbu is unique... swo the best way to find out what will work is by trying it out, which brings me to the title of the thread:

Guppies: There are alot of places to get nice colorful guppies. Houston Aquatics, Fish Ranch II, and Fish Gallery just to name a few. Seeing as how you don't know how your Mbu will react to these guys, be sure you have a backup plan for putting the guppies somewhere else. That is, unless you are comfortable with expensive feeder fish!!!

Good luck and welcome to the box.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

He wasn't being rude. He's being honest and helpful.
Furthermore, I'm HOPING that Ek's harmless comment didn't run him off...if it did; make sure it's a "HE".

I'm sure this will be edited but someone had to say it.
Read about your fish before you buy them. Not a rude comment; it's a honest one that will save you some money/time.

                          Re: i want some guppies!!!

Thank you guys for the support but I honestly did not mean to be rude nor an attack of any sort. All I stated was that if a person was to spend that kind of money on one they would have at least looked into what it was and how to care for it.....I googled MBU puffer and every link stated that they needed to be in a tank on their own and when bigger/older they would need a tank along the lines of 1,000g. Then I stated that the LFS should have also made the buyer aware of what the customer was purchasing.

I don't see any rudeness or attacks in that but I guess I am not seeing like everyone else cause there was no harm meant.

I have apologized already and it's up to Steven to accept it or not.

Gt3guru, it saddens me that you would think that my intentions were of that.

I guess next time I will just answer the question and leave my opinions out of it since the internet has become so sensitive.......Just about every LFS/petco/petsmart you go to will have guppies of all sorts....like Armthehomeless has stated the LFS he listed are probably going to be the better ones to get them from.....also there is guppymax that is a guppy breeder and from the pictures he post they are really nice.

But be warned that like most breeders that are in it for the love of the hobby vs. the money will probably not sell them to you knowing you plan to put them with an MBU so you should probably not tell him.

Can it be done....obviously yes....should it be done? up to the person....would I do it? no.... I try to provide the absolute best environment for my fish and learn the absolute most I can about them so that I can provide for them and have them happy while they are in my possession.

                          I am out.

Okay. i'm truly sorry if i seemed a rude myself. i really just thought that guppies would be the safe thing to put in there with my MBU to add so more color to my tank. i was told when i bought the MBU by several fish stores that the African Cichlids  and the MBU would be fine before i spent all the money on the MBU. i figured that out the hard way that they don't always. the cichlids wouldn't stop beating up on the MBU and so i gave them away.  i did talk to the fish store and i will agree armthehomeless that Mbu are very different from each one. My main reason to post this is to say i'm sorry if i was rude myself and that i hope that we can move on. I just got into to this fishbox not to long ago and would reallylike to keep enjoying it. i really do honest mean that i'm sorry that things got so heated. oh yeah i got my MBU from fish r us and he did tell that African Cichlids  would go good with the MBU. but my MBU just didn't. he told me to try several things  such as putting the MBU on one  side and it never helped. well i'm really sorry that this got heated. thanks.

Some african cichlids are more aggressive than others. Out of pure curiousity, do you remember what type you had?
