  • Wanted: Plecos

Red Rainbow tank has some hella strong quad T5 lighting and the trophs don't control the algae enough. It's my girl's tank and she asked me for a solution. One pleco she hates is the bristle nose. Says it makes her itch by looking at it. Pretty open to anything else. Cash in hand. Thanks. Shoot me a text.

Bristlenose or common pleco will be your best bet at controlling algae. What would be cool is a large colony of otoconclus ( get ilke 15- 20!), they'll clean it right up. Good luck finding a good solution to your algae issue.

Better water params is a good start as well as self control with the photoperiod.

A mass of plecos won't do anything if its all out of whack.

Ocats are nice but I've always had my trophs eat them, they hunt them down and pick them off one by one.

Adding more to the possible problem probably won't help

The main problem is that I painted the background blue, including the eheim intake. The algae looks bad on the intake and it gets on the glass. No brown algae. All green. Water stays crystal clear. These lights are beasts.

Whats the photoperiod like? Maybe just try to reduce the actual hours the lights on, if all the h20 parameters check out okay.

Photoperiod is about 13 or 14 hours a day. My girl leaves for work at around 7:30AM and gets back around 5:45PM. Then she enjoys watching the fish for a few hours so lights then go off around 9PM. I'm trying to get a grounded timer but haven't found any yet.

Heck, she could just have the lights on only when she's at home.
