blasting sand is heavy. Go with the coarser one. Forgot the number though. Just look at them.  Coarser one rinses easy

              Re: wtb. sand substrate.

I'm trying to obtain some heavy grain black sandblasting sand called black beauty, but the local distributor is out of stock till the first part of next week.

In the mean time.....pool filter sand would be a nice choice if you wanna go with something light in color, it is clean and heavy grain as well.

                Re: wtb. sand substrate.

im using two aquaclear HOB filter for my 55g and i change water by connecting the cleaning hose from tank to the sink. my question is : is the pool filter sand heavy enough so it can not go through cleaning hose when doing water change? and may be stuck in filter?

i went to Leslie's pool supply and i saw they have pool filter sand for $10/bag of 50lb.

Although it is probably hard to tell from the pictures, It is very thick and clean straight from the bag, but do rinse well anyway.

it looks nice. and you're sure that there is no problem with the cleaning hose when doing water change. right.
and one more thing, if i i want to reset up my 55g : dimension 48*13*18. is it 50lb enough. i don't want too thick substrate.  ABOUT YOURS IS GOOD ENOUGH.

Well, I have not done a water change and or used a phyton on it yet, but you have to make that call on your own, everyone's water pressure is different, if you are using a inside sink, or outside water faucet. I would recommend that you do more research, but then again, it's not too expensive to switch again, just time consuming.

                            Good Luck

OH>>>>PS.....dont run any sand thru a filter with an impeller...that is a no no..
