  • How to get sump ready for external pump

Need help. I wanna get this external pump but my sump doesn't have a bulkhead or anything. How can I get my sump drilled or whatever?

City Pets will do it for you plus they have all the parts you need for bulkheads

Why don't u use a PVC to make it go into the sump ? Just curious save u money and time on drilling and stuff

This is foreign to me. Never dealt with external pump so I don't know the design of them. Was interested in getting Luis's pimp and overflow but doesn't look like its happening.

External pumps hooked up via bulkheads don't need to be primed, as long as the minimum water level is maintained, they'll start pumping without further action the second it's turned on.

I think it would work by PVC I could be wrong but u could look into it since pumps are used by suction and It should work and u wouldn't have to drill

It would have to go against gravity and if it's not strong enough, you'll need to prime it. IMO save yourself the trouble and drill the wet/dry and install bulkheads.

positive displacement pumps dont need to be gravity fed but the pump he is using is probably not one of those. even if it was, it would be worth it to drill a BH so you dont have to worry about losing a prime.

Exactly what i said a few posts back. Priming it would be a PITA

Thanks for the replies. I'm weighing all of my options. I'm looking for a larger wet dry because I installed 2 2217s and my water was hovering at 85 degrees. This is my first time owning Eheims and I hate that they run so hot. I'm not certain on how to get the water back down to 79. I unplugged one last night and this morning water is about 81.5. Anyway to cool the water other than the obvious, which is putting a fan over the sump?

Didn't know City Pets will drill sumps for you. Will they drill tanks too?

My Eheims don't heat my tanks. I have had 2217s in the past and I don't remember it ever running hot.

It would be worth drilling. It will give you more head pressure.
