  • Goldfish ripping out my carpet

so I have a really thick javamoss carpet... after I introduced a goldfish to the tank, two weeks later I found a missing patch of the carpet. Later on I found out that fatty is munching on my carpet. I thought it was weird how he poop all day long even though I only feed the tank once. So sad I had the nice carpet for a year now, I thought I read somewhere that goldfish don't like javamoss because of how hard they are.

Goldfish will eat nearly any plant matter in the tank, I have even seen them rasp wood.

Lol! I put one of my comet tails in my planted tank so I wouldn't have to trim as much. Works beautifully! :) Then again, there's no carpet in there...

that little 2 inches devil yanked the moss out of the mesh. I'll take a picture soon. Make me just want to rip everything out and replant with some thicker stuff. He leaves my wisteria and anubias alone.

Munching on carpet is not necessarily a bad thing. QT/pre-treat for parasites though.

Sorry to hear about your java moss. Gooldfish are just like that.

I'mma rip out that carpet soon and plant something else. That thing eats non-stop. It got stucked in a section of the carpet yesterday I was about to rescue it out, then I saw it ate it way out. Now accepting donation for new plants. I'd love some duckweed I heard it's good natural food for these fatties

Maybe I'll replace it with fissiden moss.

When my goldfish were bloated and floating around I just fed them duckweed and eventually it went away.

                              New plan:
So I got quite upset looking at the tank like that. I ended up re-stuffing my entire carpets. Maybe when the plants order come in I'll just change the javamoss carpet with a chainsword carpet. they are strong enough I hope. It's been almost a year since I see my tank without a carpet.. Seeing the white mesh come out is really weird.
