I'm sorry to hear about your friend. But it's a call that most of us will have to make someday with our pooches.
At least you can say that you gave him the best life possible and that you made his life better than it would have been otherwise.

I know it might be to soon. But i have a male golden retriever a couple months old. I got him after he was able to get away from the mothers milk. We had him inside the house for most of the time. Just outside to do it's duty.

My wife did not want the dog inside the house when the newborn came along. So he's been outside for two months now and it's hard seeing him alone out there. Anyways, the main thing for me is with me working and then coming home to a new born i dont have time for my dog Riley. It's even hard to remember to feed him everyday day. Im not being a good owner not by choice.

Anyways, to make it a long story short. Im looking around a couple days now to see who would be a good owner and you seem in "need" of a good companion. If you like, just come pick him up and his food and a kettle. No cash. Let me know if your willing at this time. I can send pics, hopefully he reminds you of your past companion.

We got another puppy two days after our dog was gone.  It did help us a lot, the house was just too quiet without a dog!

I appreciate everyones warm-hearted messages. It does mean a lot!!! As far as getting another dog, I do not want another dog for a long while but thank you very much Knee-u-bee. I hope that you can find a good home for him. Golden Retreivers are an excellent choice of dog to have and I was very blessed to have Major. Even though he did have his times of getting into trouble, for the most part, he was very smart. He would shake hands, not touch his food until I told him to, retreive the ball, sit, lie down, and all of the basic commands but most of all, he new when I was sad or upset and the look in his eyes this morning let me know that he understood. I was trying to take care of him and when he saw me cry, his eyes drooped even worse. He was always there at my feet when I would sit on the porch and there was times that he would just lay his head on my lap. He would look up at me and let me know that everything would be ok. I can honestly say that I have never had a dog like him that made me feel so protected at night! What I loved most about him is that up til this past week, he might had been an "old man" but he always had the energy of a puppy! He is like family and we even have pictures of him up in the house like he was a human. I know that it will take some time to be able to move on but I never thought that I could feel the loss of a pet as I would a family member.

Just a little upside, the reason why I called him Major was because as a puppy, he would get into everything from day one! My mom and dad would always have a list of things that he tore up when I got home. I would always say, "you are being a major pain'" so from that day, he was Major!!! I NEVER put Major on a chain so he was free to roam the yard. Not even a year old, he pulled on the gutters until they eventually came down. He eventually learned the word no. Ok, for the most part.   Even up to this week, he still would have to be told no to. He came into this world a puppy and he left this world a puppy! He was truely a happy and loyal dog but most of all, he a man's best friend from the "B" to the "D"!!!

You will never know the true feeling of being loved until you feel it from your child.

I'm sorry for your loss. Working at a vet clinic myself, I can assure you that you decision was both a kind and humane one. You will always have his the good memories of him. I see what are clients go through on a daily basis, and I would have done the same exact thing.

That made me cry. I just hugged my pooch. And then he bit my sandwhich.... 8O
