    there answer that question
why do you care? she took advantage of a piece of legislation that worked in her favor. she broke no crime (other than just being here, which obviously our government didn't care TOO much about seeing as she later recieved her papers) are you mad, or are you just jelous?

HOUSTON -- In 2001, Texas lawmakers passed a law allowing illegal immigrants to qualify for much cheaper in-state tuition, and a woman who took advantage of the opportunity says it changed her life.
Illegal immigrants account for about 1 percent of all Texas college students. Texas A&M graduate Rosi Rodriguez says she was one of them.
'It's a success story because I went into college as an illegal immigrant," Rodriguez said. “Everyone is like, 'What’s your Social?' I'd be like, 'I don't have one.'"
Rodriguez graduated fourth in her high school class and gained automatic acceptance to Texas A&M -- and $50,000 in private scholarships.
She says without in-state tuition, she'd never have been able to get a degree.
'It was so special it makes me want to cry right now, again,” she said. "With my situation there were plenty of times that I was like, ‘I want to dropout, I can't take it. This is too much for me."
Rodriguez’s parents are in the U.S. legally, thanks to an amnesty program. She and her six siblings are split. Half were born here, half were not.
She said college was a distant dream for her family.
"They have like no background in college education, so I was like on my own for everything," she said.
Rodriguez said she understands the immigration debate better than most and knows exactly how important education is to people.
"Where would I be? I don't even want to imagine," she said.
In her final semester, Rodriguez got her green card -- a process as tough as school, she said. All along, she heard the talk from some Aggies who wondered why she was there at all.
"I'm glad I never listened to them. I'm glad I never paid attention to those harsh comments," she said.
She'd be happy to testify to the student senate now and said she has plenty to say.
"We are all Aggies here and being an illegal immigrant doesn't make me less of an Aggie," she said.

I think she needs to call me and tell me thanks for sending her to school
And ALSO, the quote is vague. it says, "In 2001, Texas lawmakers passed a law allowing illegal immigrants to qualify for much cheaper in-state tuition" it doesn't actually state that she paid any thing less than you or I would have, it just said she got to pay in stat tuition instead of out of state.

I see it both ways. On one hand it pisses me off because i see how hard it is for my brothers to get loans and scholarship and it still isn't enough to pay everything. At the same time...at least she isn't out selling drugs or killing people. Im on the fence with this one

Because our government doesn't like to split up families unless if it's avoidable. her parents were here legally. you don't know her situation, or even if she had paperwork processing when she enrolled. Maybe when they saw her transcripts they realized she could be an asset to the school and someday the working world.

with no disrespect to your brothers, how can we be sure that she didn't work harder than they did.

I agree that action should have been taken when the college found out she was illegal. Not real sure how she got around that

Because the college doesn't care as long as the money is good. for all we know her family could have paid the rest of the money.

i was the first person in my family to even go to high school, let alone graduate. when it came time for me to go to try to go to college I applied for my loans ON MY OWN. mommy and daddy were never on the paperwork. your parents income should have had nothing to do with it.

Nope, It was 17. without knowing the exact piece of legislation the article is referring to then we can't be certain whether or not she recieved her education at regular in state prices or a discounted rate. the wording of the article is vague at best. you find out with law it talks about and we will have a definate answer, without we're comparing apples to volkswagons.
