Substrate changes while cycling is usually a no-no. But these guys get into your filters and lay eggs all over the place. You can try a substrate change safely once your tank is cycled. Or you can change out the substrate and leave mesh bags of the old substrate hanging in the tank for 2 weeks or so. That's what I did when I had to change out the substrate in a cycling 125g, and things were just fine. But then you risk those baby MTS crawling through the bags and back into the water...

          • Yeah, for what it's worth I agree to focus on assassins and cycling for now. Pick out the MTS as you see them, and swap substrate later when it's not going to basically cause a do-over.

                  • Are they really? they look somewhat like it but somewhat off too...

Tylos are good, they are sulawesi snails like Rob & Sasha had in that little pico tank.

                    • I pulled 2 black ones out if that helps ID them.

                      • Black?? That might actually be sulawesi (tylos) then...if so, you're in luck. A lot of variants, but they are a baller snail. Keep em, and watch and see...

Yeah, it's what ever kind he was keeping the BN plecos with. I can't remember the name.
