the tank is 24".
trust me, i am not one to make my animals suffer, if he gets to where he it looks cramped, i will bring him to my aunt with the big tank with red hooks.

Granted, a gar would be better off in a rectangluar tank, say a 75 or so, but, there's around 26 inches or better, between the plates on that hex.....as long as Brian feeds him well enough, he'll be okay....

try dropping freeze dried shrimp, krill, crickets, and scuds in front of them. The impact on the surface and the floating properties of the dried food may trick it into it thinking its attacking an insect that fell in the water. I've seen this work before with other surface dwelling gar or pike like fish.

Why not put him in the 125, wouldnt he be a predator?

He's deffinately a predator....just dont' feed him for a few days and see for yourself.... :)

no, i think he would be considered prey in that tank
i have a 4" male Parachromis Dovii and i will be picking up a 14" Silver Arrowana on friday

also i will be getting a Monoculous Peacock Bass when i can find 1, also i am getting a tiger shovel nose catfish.
so i dont think he'll be able to hang with these big boys.

i have the 75g, but i have a tiger oscar, 2x Good Sized Dino Bichirs, and 1x Polypterus Endichleri, so i dont think he can hang there either.

Instead of that shovelnose cat...why not get a giraffe cat? I got one that kind of bugs me. he is in my New World cichlid tank and is the only thing out of place. It just bugs the heck out of me. he is about 7.5"  $20 if ANYBODY wants him. I paid $30
